

Meghalaya Spice Festival Showcases the State’s Organic Strength and Entrepreneurial Spirit in Mumbai

The Meghalaya Spice Festival, held over three vibrant days at Jio World, Mumbai, successfully brought the flavours, culture, and entrepreneurial strength of Meghalaya to the national stage. The festival created a dynamic platform for local entrepreneurs, women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs), farmers, and emerging brands from Meghalaya to connect with markets, industry leaders, and consumers in Mumbai.
The event showcased a wide range of organic spices, value-added products, and traditional produce from the state, highlighting Meghalaya’s growing identity as a hub for high-quality organic agricultural products. Visitors had the opportunity to experience the rich diversity of Meghalaya’s offerings through product showcases, ethnic food experiences, and interactive stalls managed by entrepreneurs and SHGs from across the state.
The festival focused on policy dialogue, industry collaboration, and cultural celebration. The Formal Inaugural Session featured an address by Smt. N. Bhavani Sri, IAS, Secretary, National Turmeric Board, followed by a Special Address by Dr. Vijay Kumar D, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Government of Meghalaya.
The Keynote Address was delivered by Dr. Shakeel P. Ahammed, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, while Smt. Saloni Verma, IAS, Deputy Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, delivered the concluding remarks.
The day also hosted an Industry Interaction Forum on Opportunities in Meghalaya’s Organic Spice Ecosystem, along with Business-to-Government (B2G) meetings focusing on spices and tourism. These engagements facilitated strategic discussions between policymakers, industry representatives, and entrepreneurs, opening pathways for market expansion, partnerships, and investment opportunities.
The festival also celebrated Meghalaya’s cultural richness through dedicated Cultural Evenings, showcasing traditional performances and artistic expressions from the state.
In addition, Musical Nights featured live performances by local musical talents from Meghalaya, bringing the sounds and spirit of the hills to audiences in Mumbai.
Visitors also enjoyed a showcase of traditional and ethnic cuisine, offering a taste of Meghalaya’s culinary heritage through dishes and spice-based delicacies prepared by local entrepreneurs and community groups.
Promoting Meghalaya’s Organic Identity
A significant highlight of the festival was the showcase of Meghalaya Collectives Organic, a brand under MEGNOLIA, which represents certified organic products cultivated by local farmers on certified organic lands. The initiative reflects Meghalaya’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and strengthens the visibility of the state’s organic produce in national markets.

Over the three days, the Meghalaya Spice Festival served as an enriching and educational experience for entrepreneurs, SHGs, industry leaders, and visitors alike.
